It’s good for my head to write stories every day. I don’t know if you know it, but I am writing a story every single day this month, producing it, and podcasting it. It’s fun to see what the mind comes up with on short notice.
I don’t set a timer, but I have a time of two hours kind of programmed for completing each one. I did this in February and out of it I saw that for most of the month, there was sort of a formula that emerged. You can read about that here, I wrote this on July 31, 2024:
Is There a Formula for Flash Fiction?
I think of Flash Fiction as pressing the subconscious into duty. It has been rewarding for me. Tomorrow is Flash August Fiction where I will do 30 brand-new stories, podcasted, in 30 days. In February, I did Flash Fiction February[FFF], which was 29.
What I’m Im seeing this month is that I tend to end the story on a thought or an idea that sort of surprises me. Several of these stories end out of nowhere but on interesting thoughts, or answers, or resolutions that are interesting to think about.
What I’m asking you to please do today is recommend and share my Substack.
I have hundreds of stories on here and as of today, 120 podcasts. They have to be worth something to someone. Can you please refer? Thanks.
Here’s a rundown of this week’s stories:
Prayer and Medicine
It’s Day ONE of Flash August Fiction. Here we go, folks. The journey begins. Where will it take us? 30 stories and podcasts in 30 days. I’m Commercial Herschel. You’re welcome. What do you think about prayer and intent, and all of that? I can tell you that when I meditate, and focus, essentially the same thing as prayer, my life is better. The only thi…
Sleepy Superposition
DAY TWO of Flash August Fiction. Wow. Last night, The topic of Quantum Cognition: Entangled Hearts and Dreams was a show and a half on Troubled Minds Newsletter’s show the on video channels and discord, because it went on in my sleep after I conked out. I had so many dreams. Apparently this topic lends itself to that. I had decided last night that I was going to do today’s stor…
Baloney Mongers
DAY 3 OF FLASH AUGUST FICTION. I had no idea where this one was going. I really didn’t. I just knew the general idea and who knows what the heck was going to happen. Usually there is at least a little bit more of an idea than this. Something tells me it’s going to be absurd.
OVALS: Where is Madsen?
DAY FOUR of FLASH AUGUST FICTION. We have an antagonist! This is the NINTH OVALS EPISODE! Today I’m going to create the conflict in the OVALS series. This will be a Character v. Society, or even Character v. Nature conflict(s). Regardless, we have an antagonist! Now it’s a real story. Now it’s a real series. You’re welcome. I’m Commercial Herschel. You …
Shutting Tom Out
DAY 5 of Flash August Fiction is here. I’m in a goofy way today. I have a feeling this is going to be like The Cheeseguard, or The Resident, or maybe even Interview: Toliver Smythe, Retired Train Conductor. We are just about to find out. Thanks for being here. I’m Herschel Sterling, and I’m here to help.
Deep State Trash
DAY 6 OF FLASH AUGUST FICTION. Today I have something on my mind like Mitchell’s Mission. In my line of work, I have had to deal with a lot of a-holes like Mitchell, and the kind of people I’m going to write about today. I guess it’s probably good therapy to write about it. There really is some trash out there who will do anything for money and to ingr…
Instant Replay is a Lesson in Time: OVALS
DAY 7 of FLASH AUGUST FICTION. More, OVALS, already. I know. I know. It’s OK because it’s about baseball. They really like to mess with us from low earth orbit sometimes. Just blending in, looking like stars. Such jerks. Here is some background on OVALS, if you’re not familiar:
I am Commercial Herschel, I am here to help. Thanks for reading.
