Erected in 2045, it’s comprised of recycled glass, plastic, and minerals from the circuit boards of televisions. The purpose of the memorial is to celebrate the time in the Country when people realized how terribly deceived they had been regarding so many things, and how television was used by nefarious actors to keep them ignorant and confused.
People began to leave flowers as well, to remember those lost to that time. It’s hard to fathom how people somehow mistook the appliance in their homes for the windows to the outside world. It’s not understood how this was able to happen for such a long time, and the people determined to never let it happen again.
The tide had been turning for some years with the advent of the World Wide Web. Then in the mid 2020s many secret documents were released, and government agencies had been audited, adjusted or outright abolished. The Country was able to finally connect with its history and with other parts of the world that had been denied by the political powers of the times. In doing so, much that they had been deprived of came to light.
Large swaths of the population suddenly seemed to come online. There was a lot of anger and dismay. The ones in high places had lost much of their sway on the population because the secret programs they used to control their minds had ended. When the citizens realized that this had been happening for so many decades, it was overwhelming. The elite, so keen on control, and dependent on deceiving people, decided that the best thing they could do was to succumb to the will of the masses voluntarily. This was the safest thing for everyone.
